She was predeceased by : her parents, Hubert Springle and Loretta Springle; her son Jeffrey Choate; her siblings, Hubert Springle Jr., Johnny Springle, Frank Springle, Gene Springle, Elijah Springle, Isabelle Springle and June Just; and her great grandchild Brianna Brown.

She is survived by : her children, Sherry Dean, Tina Willis, David Choate (Sandy) and Johnny Choate; her daughter-in-law Lynne Choate; her grandchildren, Tonya Wilson (Sam), Joseph Willis, Chasity Lobland, Courtney Lobland and Michael Choate; her great grandchildren, Hillary, Charlotte, Ayden Brown, Jayden, Joslynn Lobland, Nathaniel Ellison, Nadia Wilson, Emily Bragg and Khloe Willis; her great great grandchild Kayden Ellison; and her siblings, Jan Whitehurst (Kenny), Mary Cox (Wayne) and Charles Springle (Bobby). She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Berta's name may be made to First Free Will Baptist Church in Beaufort.
