He was predeceased by: his parents, L. C. McDowell and Berta McCook McDowell. He is survived by: his wife Marilyn Cogburn McDowell; his children, Cynthia Stevens (Wayne), Andria Smith (George) and Danny McDowell of Canton; his siblings, Patricia Lowe of Akron, OH and Joe Bob McDowell of Waynesville; his grandchildren, Andrew Stevens of Irvine, CA, Catherine Mills of Wendell, NC and Elliott Smith of Lexington, NC; Audriana Mills, Luciana Mills and Avery Smith.
