He was predeceased by: his parents, Shafter Hammond and Mina Nance Hammond; and his sisters, Eloise McRae, Mattie "Matt" Nance, Marjorie Anderson, Doris Greene and Peggy Herring.

He is survived by: his wife Jean Arthur Williamson Hammond; his children, Sheri H. Noble (Andy) of Chadbourn and Arthur Shayne Hammond (Stephanie) of Cerro Gordo; and his grandchildren, Brett Noble, Jean Ashley Bell, Fielding Hammond, Bess Frankoff and Seth Noble. He is also survived by great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cerro Gordo Fire & Rescue.
