She was predeceased by: her parents, Dr. Luis Vela and Victoria Vergara; her husband Ernest Gangi; and her siblings, Victoria Vela, Luis Eduardo Vela, Yolanda Restrepo, Francisco Vela and Beatrice Molinos.
She is survived by: her children, Gregory Gangi (Emily) of Durham and Lisa Gangi of Cleveland; her grandchildren, Nicholas Peterson of Cleveland, Joseph Mian of Cleveland and Olivia Mian of Cleveland; her sisters, Elizabeth Skema of Chapel Hill and Margarita Morales of Bogota, Colombia; and her niece Catalina Christensen (Kier) of London, England.
