He was predeceased by: his parents, Samuel H. Wilson, Sr. and Sue Whatley Wilson; and his son Samuel H. Wilson III. He is survived by: his wife Dorothea Cowart Wilson; his children, Katherine Wilson Kohler (Jeff), Brendan, James and Alexandra; his grandsons, Samuel IV, John Paul, George and Benjamin Wilson; and also, W. Joe Wilson (Susan), Steven, Jeffrey (Kristen), Tai and Hera.

Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made in Dr. Wilson's memory to the Lineberger Cancer Institute, UNC, Chapel Hill, NC.
