He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Sherrill and Jamie Polk Sherrill; and his siblings, Robert Sherrill, Richard Sherrill, Barbara James, Betty Sherrill McCorey and Birginia Sherrill.
He is survived by: his wife Phyllis Mills Sherrill; his children, Vernon Reid (Waverlyn), Melvin Sherrill, Wayne Sherrill and Charlene S. Simmons; his siblings, Harold Sherrill (Diane), Annie Myers of Charlotte and Helen McKissick of Charlotte; and the mother of his children Hazeline Anderson Sherrill. He is also survived by three brothers-in-law, eight sisters-in-law, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and many friends.
