He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Burgin and Dollie McKinney Self; his wife Rita Hoke Self; and his siblings, Alma McKinney, Ellie McKinney, Jake, Cecil, Harold and Gene Self.
He is survived by: his sisters-in-law, Barbara Self of Spruce Pine, Georgia Self of Spruce Pine and Betty Powell (Gary) of Claremont, NC.. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
