John H Beasley Obituary

John's father was John Wallace Beasley. He passed on Christmas Eve when John was only 2 so he really never knew him. His mother was Leola Huntley Beasley and she passed in 2000. He had 1 brother Wallace Beasley who passed away in 2021.

I met John shortly after moving to Charlotte. He had just retired from the Charlotte Fire Department and there was something about him that drew me to him. We started dating and after his mother's death he moved in with me. After meeting a few of his friends, one of them sold me their condo. We've been living there ever since.

John graduated from East Mecklenburg High and later was drafted into the Army where he served his time in Vietnam. He was #3 in the draft, and he made the comment 'I finally won something.' The newspaper was there taking pictures of those drafted, heard his remark and posted it with his picture on the front page.

After his military time, John came home and eventually went to work with the Charlotte Fire Department. He made many friends and developed many memories, some good, some bad. He used to tell me about delivering a baby. He was so proud of being able to make that accomplishment.

John loved mountains and especially Lake Lure and the 2 of us would go up now and then to enjoy its beauty. He took me to Chimney Rock once where I had never been. He seemed to enjoy taking me places that were new to me. He took me to Myrtle Beach several times for the Shag Festival. I'm from Georgia and I had never heard of Shag nor had I ever seen the dance that the Shaggers do. It was quite interesting. He loved it and the music that went with it. He also loves Frank Sinatra & Dean Martin. He could listen to their music all day and never tire of it. Near the end, while in the VA hospital he wanted to hear Frank's song 'I Did it My Way.' I had to walk out of the room when it would play.

John had a furbaby named Maggie. She is a Westie that loved him dearly. When he was still in the VA hospital I would go to bed and Maggie would go to John's room looking for him. She would curl up in her little bed for a while and then come to my room to spend the rest of the night. When he came home, they brought out a hospital bed which I put in the living room. Maggie pushed her little bed under his bed and that's where she would lay most of the day & night. Even now, with him gone, she still goes to his room looking for him. She misses him dearly.

John was a good man. Just like all of us, he had his good and his bad. If he and I had not met I have no idea where I would be. He was the one person who allowed and provided for me to have what I have now. If he and I had not met I don't know where he would have been up to this time. We were both good for each other, providing for each other and we loved each other dearly. I miss him now and I'll miss him for the rest of my life. God Bless You John for you are pain free and in God's hands. I love you.
