He was predeceased by: his parents, Jones P. Thompson, Sr. and Minnie Blanche Franklin Thompson; his wife Barbara Amick Thompson; his son Michael Nolan Thompson; and his sisters, Ethel Taylor, Rumfelt and Lois Whatley.
He is survived by: his son William David Thompson; his daughters-in-law, Dana T. Thompson of Matthews, NC and Angie Thompson of Mineral Springs, NC.; his sister Evelyn "Charlie" Jenkins of Mount Holly; his grandchildren, Christi Thompson, Justin Thompson (Vanessa) and Brooke Thompson Crocker (Patrick); and his great grandchildren, Brooklyn Anderson, Savannah Anderson, Caroline Thompson, Luke Anderson and Aubrey Thompson.
