He was predeceased by: his parents, Hattie Maitland and Walter Louis Newton; and his brother William George Newton. He is survived by: his wife Sibyl Woodford Newton; his daughters, Alice Newton Harris (Bill) of Fayetteville, Georgia, Ellen Newton Auten (Mark) of Mooresville and Julia Newton Buie (David) of Charlotte; his grandchildren, Mary Ellen Auten Gillespie (Brian), Laura Auten Christman (Matt), Caroline Harris Thornton (Stephen), Anne Buie Secrest (John), Rebecca Auten, Elizabeth Buie, Charlotte Harris, Sarah Harris and William Buie; his great grandchildren, Madelyn, Amelia Christman and Eleanor Thornton; and his sister-in-law Florence A. Newton of Palm Desert, California. He is also survived by two nieces; and two nephews.
