He was predeceased by: his parents, Mary Boyd and Marion "Buster" Griffin; his wife Peggy Steele Griffin; his daughter Beth Griffin Story; his brother Kenneth Griffin; and his stepfather Carey Boyd.
He is survived by: his sister Nancy Grier; his children, Kathy Griffin Armstrong (Stan) and Richard Griffin Jr. (Amy); his granddaughters, Kathleen Griffin, JoAnna Story Gilbreath (Justin) and Sarah Story; and his great grandchild Dean Story.
