He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Byrd and Victoria Beasley Byrd; his son Michael Byrd; and his sister Wilma Foss. He is survived by: his wife Edna Turner Byrd; his children, Wayne Byrd (Christina) of Clinton and Sheila Owens (Shelton) of Roseboro; his brother Jackie Byrd of Clinton, NC; and his grandchildren, Jason Byrd of Clinton, Cory Byrd of Clinton, Justin Byrd of Clinton, Amber Owens of Roseboro and Taylor Owens of Roseboro.
