He was predeceased by: his parents, Alphie Gaskey and Douglas Gaskey; his wife Doris Jane Gamble Gaskey; his son David Gaskey; and his siblings, Ernest, Marshall, Jessie, Floyd, Don, Howard, Harold, Bob, Annie Jacobs, Fannie Mae Price, Virginia Rowell, Betty Stairs and Mary Alice Tucker.
He is survived by: his children, Pamela Smith (Mark) and Darrell (Sabina); his adoptive son Catalin; his daughter Eleanor Roman; his grandchildren, Jennifer Smith Cook (Chris), Jeremy Smith (Jessica), Joseph Gaskey (Kathrine), Isabella, Constantine Gaskey, Vlad Roman, April Samples and Melanie Gass (Jeff); and his great grandchildren, Makenna and Maci Smith.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Parkwood Baptist Church Building Fund at 1069 Central Drive, Concord, NC 28027.
