He is survived by: his children, Tim Smith (Wendy) of Chapel Hill, Dean Smith of Spokane, WA, Margaret Lebo of Charlottesville, VA, Peter Smith (Anne) of Virginia Beach, VA, Curt Smith (Crystal) of China Grove, NC, Kathy Horsley (Bill) of Concord, NC and Tricia Davis (John) of Hilton Head, SC. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; a niece and a nephew.
