He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie Dowdy and Louise Caddell Dowdy; his son Edward Dowdy; his wives, Annie Powell Dowdy and Joyce Featherson Dowdy; his siblings, Charles Dowdy, Elaine Dowdy-Jackson and Cleo McNeil; and his grandchildren, Tony Jones Jr. and Desiree Amuria Jones.
He is survived by: his former wife Sherry Reddick; his children, Lisa Jones of Triangle, Annette Anderson of Charlotte, Franklin Dowdy Jr. of Charlotte, Montclair Powell of Charlotte, Christopher Powell of Charlotte, Richard Powell of Charlotte and Burton Powell of District Heights, Maryland; and his siblings, Flora Dowdy-Mitchell of Charlotte, Marie Dowdy of Charlotte, Geraldine Dowdy of Charlotte, Eleanor Dowdy of Charlotte and Anthony Dowdy of Concord. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
