He was predeceased by: his mother Mary Hudson Helms; his son Darrell Franklin Helms; and his siblings, Olin Helms, James Helms and Willene Herrin.
He is survived by: his wife Gail Helms of Concord, NC; his daughters, Angela Joyner (Scott) and Mary Denise Helms; his grandchildren, Michael Helms, Heather Clay, Cody Helms, Jared Helms and Maverick "Chase" Joyner; and his brother Joe Helms.
