He was predeceased by: his siblings, Olin David Helms and Mary "Willene" Herrin. He is survived by: his wife Ethel Eyvone Helms of Concord, NC; his children, David Helms (Paula) of Denton, NC, James "Peanut" Edward Helms, Jr. of Salisbury, NC, Anita Gail Miller (Mike) of Kannapolis, NC and Joe Randy Helms; his brothers, Howard Helms (Gail) of Concord, NC and Joe Helms (Diane) of Concord, NC; and his grandchildren, Amisha, Amy, Glenn, Alex, Chasity and Devin. He is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
