He was predeceased by: his parents, H. L. "Buddy" and Esther Hammett; his brothers, James "Jimmy" and Lamar "Bubba" Hammett; and his son Eric Watson.
He is survived by: his wife Becky; his brother George Hammett; and his children, John Jr. Hammett (Ginny), Joe Hammett (Wendy), Jeff Hammett (Jenny), Erin Brafford (Mark), Kristen Kerwood (Bill) and Todd Watson (Mandy). He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
