He is survived by: his wife Diane Tart Mullis; his children, Michelle Dillard, Carol Austin, Linda Blalock, Melvin Mullis, Jr., Martin Mullis and Mike Mullis; and his brother William Mullis, Jr.. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
