He was predeceased by: his sister Sandra Yates (Ernest "Buddy" Yates, Sr.); and his parents, Harry Murr and Bessie Eury Murr. He is survived by: his wife Kimberly Murr; his daughters, Hannah Murr and Melissa Murr McNeilly (Steven); his grandsons, Julian "Samuel" and Javier McNeilly; and his niece Holley Yates.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorials be made in Sam's name to: Our Community Table, Rocky River Church, 887 Pitts School Rd SW, Concord, NC 28027.
