He was predeceased by: his parents, Hugh Hartsoe and Rachel Clark Hartsoe; his siblings, Troy Hartsoe, Nellie Propst, Alice Arrington and Mary Rose; and his son Michael Hartsoe.

He is survived by: his children, Kathy Boston (Richard Thomas), Janet Wells (Ralph), Paul Hartsoe (Kasey Sigmon) and Terry Hartsoe; his grandchildren, Samantha Cline, Austin Hartsoe, Grayson Hartsoe, Roxie Bright and Jennifer Little; and his great grandchildren, Mamie Boston, Kirsten Cline and Saydi Cline. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carolina Caring in Sherrill's Ford and The Blind Association.
