He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Shepherd and Rosie Mae Phillips Shepherd; his wife Geneva S. Shepherd; and his siblings, Gladys, Wade, Coy, Russell, Jim and Bill.
He is survived by: his son Jerry Shepherd (Theresa); his grandchildren, Bryan Shepherd of Conover and Tera Alcala (Joe); his sons, John Alcala and Eli Alcala of Oviedo, Fla.; and his sisters, Maggie Shore of Miller's Creek, Mary Love of North Wilkesboro and Gracie Brown of Chapel Hill.
