He was predeceased by : his parents, Fred Lawson, Sr. and Ella Nora Houston (Hooper); his sisters, Emma Lou Shook, Lillian Ray and Ruth Houston; his nephew Clinton Taylor; and his niece Olsa Queen.

He is survived by : his siblings, Fred Jr. (Alva), Shirley Henry (Jake) and Joy Queen (Mike); and his nieces and nephews, Wallace, Keith Henry, Curtis, Kevin Queen, Lib Broom, Mike Taylor and Michelle Shook.
