He is survived by: his wife Elizabeth Towner Akers; his children, Tom Akers (Karen) of Wheaton, Illinois, Cyndy Korb (David) of Big Canoe, Georgia, Bill Akers of Fort Dix and Jay Akers (Chris) of Mooresville; his grandchildren, Matthew Garnet, Steven, Annabelle, Gretchen, Baily, Tucker, Hayden, Elias, Joonas, Towner, AnnMarie and Cooper; his great grandchildren, Melody, Isla, Winnie and Korbin; his sister Sue McClanahan (Mack) of San Rafael; and his nieces, Susan Leichtner and Paula Neff.
