He was predeceased by : his parents, Edward Columbus Thornburg and Ruby Leona Sparks Thornburg; his wife Brenda Jones Thornburg; and his brothers, Gary and E. C. Thornburg.

He is survived by : his son Jay Thornburg (Jamie); his grandsons, Levi Nance and Nathan Nance; and his siblings, Jerry Thornburg (Toni) and Joyce Isley (Floyd).

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Randolph County.
