He is survived by: his wife Joyce Klass McDowell; his son Gary McDowell (Joann) of Thomasville; his grandson Dustin McDowell (Ashley) of Greensboro; his great grandchild Bella; and his siblings, Donald McDowell (Judy) of Denton, Emma Payne of High Point, Lillie Buie of High Point, Becky Moore (Bill) of High Point, Margie Lail of Denton and Brenda Tucker (David) of Denton.
