He was predeceased by: his father Henry Clay Carter; his wife Mary Frances Carter; and his siblings, Mary Ann Stanley and Melvin Carter. He is survived by: his sons, Michael Keaton of Stoneville, NC and Alton Carter, Jr. of Mayodan, NC; and his brother Edward "Ed" Carter (Edison Carter). He is also survived by four grandchildren, three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
