He was predeceased by : his parents, Fred Dyer Smith and Hattie Carter Smith. He is survived by : his wife Barbara Hopkins Smith; his son Richard D. Smith (Sherri) of Morehead City; his sisters, Eunice Smith Shreve of Cary, NC and Ruby Smith Hinson of Stoneville; his grandchildren, Tori Smith of Morehead City and Jacob Smith of Morehead City; his sister Mary Sue Smith Surber; and his daughter Deborah Lynn Smith.
