He was predeceased by: his parents, John Ward and Mabel Nuckols Ward; his son Gene E. Ward, Jr.; and his siblings, Jack Ward, Max Ward, Mary Lou Reynolds and Henry Ward.
He is survived by: his wife Vilma Warf Ward; his children, Becky Hopper (David) of Eden, Brian Ward (Sherron) of Eden and Tanya Isley of Eden; his daughter-in-law Karen Ward of Eden; his grandchildren, Michele Archer, Michael Austin, Laura Easter and Tyler Ward; and his sister Betty Compton of Ridgeway, VA. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
