He was predeceased by: his parents, James Edward Denson, Sr. and Laura Amos Denson; his wife Emogene Crowder Denson; and his sisters, Clara B. Slaughter, H. Frances Wilkes and Eva Mae Denson.

He is survived by: his children, Janice Denson Robinson (David) of Eden and David Edward Denson (Tina) of Sanford; his granddaughter Hannah Grace Denson of Sanford; his brother Ralph Emerson; and his cousin Lisa Currier of Virginia.
