He was predeceased by: his parents, Edgar Washburn and Clara DeHart Washburn; his wife Doris W. Washburn; and his siblings, John, Willis Talmadge, Curtis, Billy, Robert Washburn, Rivers Washburn, Annie Mae Washburn, Eloys DeHart and Lorene McBride.
He is survived by: his daughters, Brenda G. Smith (Thomas) of Eden and Pamela G. Patterson (James); his grandchildren, Brad Smith (Stephanie) of Eden, Mark Patterson (Angela) of Greensboro and Teresa Leake (Bobby) of Eden; his great grandchildren, Hunter, Kennedy, Caroline, Brittany and Callie; his nephew Mac Washburn; his daughter Pam; and his granddaughter Theresa.
