He was predeceased by: his parents, Willie Brandeau and Vergie Hurd Powell; and his grandparents, Julius, Lucinda Overby Powell, Sally Stultz Hurd and Jess Hurd.

He is survived by: his wife Nancy Stovall Powell; his child Mickey Walker Powell, Jr. of Eden; and his sister-in-law Dr. Judy Stovall Rivenbark (William R. Rodgers, Jr.).
