He was predeceased by: his parents, Murray D. Ashley and Virginia Phipps Ashley; and his daughter Patricia Ann Hart. He is survived by: his wife Virginia Jones "Ginny" Ashley; his sons, R. E. "Bobby" Ashley, Jr. (Heidi) and Chaz of Asheville; his grandson Damien; his son Adam Kephart (Dana); his grandson Liam; his son-in-law Bill Hart of Garner; and his children, Katie Oltman (Matt) and Billy Hart.
