He was predeceased by: his parents, Lucius Theodore and Celia Rebecca Copeland Chappell; and his grandson Dawson. He is survived by: his sons, Teddy Chappell (Wendy) and Dustin Chappell; his siblings, Carrie Dail and Lucius Roy Chappell of Tyner; and his grandchildren, Hunter, Noah, Sydnie, C. J., Abby and Star.

Memorial contributions may be made to the building fund of Lighthouse Tabernacle Church, 1186 County Line Road, Belvidere, NC 27980.
