He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl Clarence Bassett, Jr. and June Penny Bassett; his son John Edward "Jeb" Bassett; and his sister June "Tootsie" Stryzinski. He is survived by: his wife Becky; his children, Earl C. "Tad" Bassett, IV (Martha) and Cathy Bassett Smith; his daughter-in-law Lynn Bassett; his grandchildren, Charles H. "C. H." Williams, III (Kara), Jonathan C. Bassett (Ashley) and Julianna L. Bassett; his sister Penny Bassett Smith; and his pet Lilli. He is also survived by four great grandchildren.
He worked for various healthcare organizations, Vidant Chowan Hospital as the first Executive Director of Foundation; Physician Recruitment; and was an integral part in the development of the Roanoke Chowan Community Health Center (RCCHC).
