He was predeceased by: his parents, John Edward Waff, III and Marie Emma Ferguson Waff; his sons, Allen and Michael Waff; his brother Danny Waff; his stepbrother David Twine; and his brothers-in-law, Crayton Hughes and David Warren.
He is survived by: his wife Shirley Copeland Waff; his daughter Tammy Smith (Matt) of Edenton; his stepmother Doris Waff of Burgaw; his siblings, Emma Hughes of Burgaw, Carolyn Warren of Rocky Point, Crystal "Chris" Bethune (Ricky) of Winston-Salem, Janet Hargrove (Bob) of Edenton and Perry Waff (Mary) of Edenton; his sister-in-law Joan Waff of Chester, VA; his stepsisters, Lynn Stauber (Harold) of Burgaw and Debbie Phelps of Burgaw; his granddaughters, Kaitlyn, Tabitha Smith, Destiny and Brianna Waff; his stepgrandchildren, Elizabeth Davis and Chris Merello; and his great grandchildren, Ta'myla and Harmoniee. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
