He was predeceased by: his parents, William S. Perry and Mary Twine Perry; his wife Essie McClenney Perry; his daughter Rita; his son-in-law Jerry Gaster; his stepmother Pencie Perry Minter; and his siblings, Virginia, William and Merrill.
He is survived by: his children, Teresa Perry Slavin (Eddie) of Edenton, Patricia Perry Casper (Ronnie) of Tyner and Lynn Perry (Sheila) of Edenton; and his grandchildren, Danny Ashley (Jackie), Kevin Ashley, Morgan White (Chad), Jamie Monds, Alan Monds (Kim), Casey White (Brian), Curtis Casper (Danielle), Dana Layden (Charlie), Heather Perry and Lynn Weston Perry. He is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren.
Community service included his serving on the Edenton Housing Authority, the Iredell House Association Board, and as a volunteer with Hospice, the American Red Cross, and the American Cancer Society, and the Edenton Historical Society.
