She was predeceased by: her parents, Oswald Lafayette and Virginia Rhea Spivey; her husband William Badham "Bill" Gardner, Sr.; and her brother O. L. "Sonny" Spivey, Jr.. She is survived by: her children, Virginia Hudgins Gardner "Ginny", Waff (late Paul) of Edenton, Elizabeth Badham Gardner "Bess" and William Badham "Bill" Gardner, Jr. of Edenton; her grandchildren, William Gardner Culpepper of Raleigh, George William "Bill" Wood, II of Raleigh and Emma Ruth Gardner of Raleigh; her children, Margaret Elizabeth Jones, Sarah Downing Jones (Noel "Jackie" Blackmore) and Burton Walker Jones (Debbie); and also, Reece Walker Jones of Wilmington and Jared Downing Jones of Wilmington.
