He was predeceased by: his parents, Rodney T. Harrell, Sr. and Bessie Leary Harrell; his wife Joyce Brunson Harrell; and his brothers, Robert S. "Bob" Harrell and Scott Harrell, Sr..
He is survived by: his son Rodney Elliott Harrell (Debbie) of Wake Forest; his sister Marion Cross Goodman of Edenton; his grandchildren, Cori Lynn Harrell Nix (Adam) of Raleigh and Benton Elliott Harrell of Raleigh; and his great grandchildren, Luke and Logan Nix.
