He was predeceased by: his parents, Ezra Whitaker, Sr. and Alice Evelyn Wilder Brooks; his wife Jean Brown Brooks; his son Robert William Brooks; and his brothers, Ezra Whitaker Brooks, Jr. and Gerald Edward Brooks.
He is survived by: his brother Ship Repair; his children, Diana Lynn Brooks of Raleigh, Teressa B. Zaruba of Yorktown, VA and Neal Allan Brooks (Kendra) of Elizabeth City; his daughter-in-law Becky Brooks of Washington; and his sisters, Olive Page Jarman and Sarah Jane Pursley. He is also survived by five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
