He was predeceased by: his parents, Hedrick Thompson Sykes and Margie Elizabeth Hogan Sykes. He is survived by: his wife Jackie Elaine Whisenhunt Sykes; his children, Jennifer Sykes and Cameron Sykes; his brother Tom Sykes (Vickie); his nephews, Rick Sykes and Matthew Sykes (Whitney); and his great-nieces, Savannah and Claire Sykes.
