He was predeceased by: his parents, Sherod Warren Clifton and Ida Mary Sawyer Clifton; his wife Sheila Margaret Payne; his daughter Kimberly Ann; and his grandson Scott Patton Givens, Jr..
He is survived by: his uncle J. Winton Sawyer; his daughters, Mary Kathleen and Kathleen Givens (Scott); his grandchildren, Jollish Clayton Elliott, Kathleen Callis Elliott, Sheila Louise Givens Hudson (John), Tammy Givens (late Scott Patton Givens, Jr.) and Tabatha Ann Givens Baker (Chris); and his sisters, Audrey Jones and Grace Zurawicki.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, 1453 N. Road Street, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
