Thelma Sawyer Forbes Obituary
With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Thelma Sawyer Forbes (Elizabeth City, North Carolina), whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on November 30, 2025 at the age of 106. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her husband Willard O. Forbes; her son-in-law Floyd "Buddy" F. Martin Jr.; and her siblings, Clyde "Buddy", Iredell "Del", Nellie, Lou, Patsy, Curtis, Elton and Laura.
She is survived by: her children, Anita Forbes Martin and Willard Terry Forbes; her grandchildren, Deborah E. Martin, Andrea Martin Sommerstein (Aaron), Floyd "Casey" F. Martin III and Michael Thomas Martin (Becky); and her great grandchildren, Lauren Kenny Ziegler, Charles "Chaz" Johnson, Ethan Clarke and Preston Clarke.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 3rd 2025 from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM at the Twiford Funeral Homes (405 E Church St, Elizabeth City, NC 27909). A graveside service will be held on Thursday, December 4th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the West Lawn Cemetery (1909 West Main Street Extension, Elizabeth City, NC 27909).
