It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Pennie Hanes Carter of Elkin, North Carolina, who passed away on July 1, 2021, at the age of 93, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Spencer Hanes and Shirley Wall Hanes; and her husband James Russell Carter. She is survived by: her sons, Gary James Carter (Peggy) of Jonesville and Reggie Lee Carter (Debbie) of Elkin; and her grandchildren, Melissa Cato and Chris Carter. She is also survived by many other family members and close friends.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
