He was predeceased by : his parents, Alfred Thurl Gilliam and Carrie Mae Pittillo Gilliam; and his siblings, Edwin Gilliam, Sherrill Gilliam, John Gilliam and Barbara Gilliam Pressley.

He is survived by : his children, Rebecca Young (Todd), Sandra Hammond (Barry) and Joseph Edward Gilliam (Michelle) of Bulverde, TX; his siblings, Mack Gilliam of Fairview and Shirley Whittemore; his grandchildren, Robert Allison (Arsha), Kevin Allison (Pam), Julie Mathis Bean (Jon), Travis Mathis (Brooke), Michael Young, Joseph Anthony Gilliam and Rayna Young; and his great grandchildren, River Allison, Emaleigh Bean, Aubree Bean and Charlie Mathis. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
