It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Carey Velmont Downing of Fayetteville, North Carolina, born in Cumberland, North Carolina, who passed away on July 7, 2024, at the age of 95, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Carey Downing and Mary Jackson Downing; his siblings, Neill Downing, Carlyle Downing and Yvonne Downing Garth; his grandson Samuel David Carver; and his daughter Lynne Downing Carver.
He is survived by: his wife Joy H. Downing; his sons, Carey V. Downing Jr. (Connie) and David Neill Downing (Wendy); his grandchildren, Jonathan Heyward Downing, Carrie Grey Weiss and Sarah Elizabeth Downing; and his great grandchild Calvin Grey Weiss.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 201 Anderson St. Fayetteville, N.C. 28301.
