He was predeceased by : his son Robert Dale Bannister; and his brother Mike Bannister. He is survived by : his children, Jacqueline Ellen Jackson (Danny) of Coats and Jackie Allan Bannister (Barbara) of Clayton; his brother Doug Bannister of Minnesota; his grandchildren, Alexandria Jackson, Chris Oneal, Amanda Bannister, Courtney Bannister of Robert Bannister, JR. and Virginia Jackson; and his great grandchildren, Jaylen Oneal, Dakota Oneal, Blane Oneal, Ty Oneal and Callia Oneal.

Visitation was held on Friday, April 12th 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home Chapel (401 N Ennis St, Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526). A funeral service was held on Friday, April 12th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the same location. A graveside service was held on Friday, April 12th 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Wake Chapel Memorial Gardens (905 Wake Chapel Rd, Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526).
