He was predeceased by: his parents, Martin Luther and Virginia Kelly Jackson; his wife Linda Cope Jackson; and his siblings, Carolyn Bumgardner and Owen Jackson.

He is survived by: his children, Robert Gary, Jr. (Tracy Jackson), Thomas Luther (Julie Jackson), Susan Jackson Zerfoss (Scott) and Nena Jackson Ellison (Bob); his grandchildren, Jason Jackson (Jennifer), Kristin Tosto (Elliott), Christopher Hutchins, Lucas McMinn (Stormy), Chad Zerfoss, Jami Gentle and Allisia Gentle; and his sisters-in-law, Beverly Jordan (Mike) of Carthage, NC and Judy Cope of Belmont. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren.
