He was predeceased by: his parents, Grover Cleveland Thompson and Kitty Leaura Stith Thompson; his sons, A. K. Thompson, Jr. and Ronnie Thompson; and his siblings, Dixie Barnes, Louise Williams, Margie Rich, Mary Bradley, Deorman Thompson, G. C. Thompson and James Oscar Thompson.
He is survived by: his son Richard Lynn "Dickie" Thompson (Diane) of Garner; his daughters-in-law, Donna Thompson of Saulston and Sandra Thompson of Fuquay Varina; and his grandchildren, Christopher Thompson, Sonya Voyles, Emily Brooke Thompson and Erin LeGrand. He is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren.
