He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Calvin Gainey and Gladys Futrell Gainey; his siblings, Walter "Bob" Gainey, James, Dale and Marilyn; and his brothers-in-law, Forrest Cates, Conrad Ryden, Delmar Wallace, Jr., Henry Wallace and Rolphe Wallace.
He is survived by: his wife Melisia; his children, Shelley West (Maris), Raiford Gainey and Thomas Gainey (Lisa); his grandchildren, Gabriel, Samuel and Grace West; his sister Judy Cates; his siblings-in-law, Joyce Gainey, Betty Gainey, Sylvia Wallace, Pattie Queen, Lillian Wallace and Earl Queen; his cousin Norwood Gainey, Jr.; and his close friends, Kenneth and Brenda Cox. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews.
